I’ve been through a lot of topics, and wow what a story
Hi,
I’m one of the developers responsible for the chat system at Twitch. We’re hoping to significantly increase our activity on these forums to help support developers making awesome features using chat.
This year we’ve spent most of our time reducing the number of dropped messages from chat. We hope you’ve noticed the significant improvements that have been made towards that goal. Although there is still more to do, sending messages is more reliable now than ever.
Soon, message reliability w…
Since the new whisper system is getting revamped to a different system soon™, I’d like to already request that a channel context (which channel the whisper originated from) be added to whispers.
That way bots can utilize whispers, offloading bot responses and commands into whispers so that chat gets less spammy. Just picture a giveaway through chat with zero “!raffle” messages.
You plan to continue using IRC, but you “purposely made whispers convoluted for IRC integration”
Yep
because someday
Very soon
you plan to make up some entire new protocol just for this one feature?
I never claimed we’d make up some new protocol, just that the protocol won’t be IRC
…because IRC “fails to provide features for user<->user communication”?
It fails to provide user<->user in the way we want it, yes.
Which is entirely what IRC does?
Not really. IRC is made for state…

All closed but not did not find a clear answer. Is it possible, one way or another, at this date (01 August 2016) a way to intercept messages in a whisp ?
sockets ? irc chatgroup ? API ?
It’s a BOT, I can already send a whisper to a user by sending /w command on the irc channel and I’d like to intercept user messages in the whisp, so the bot can reply back.
If someone can end the myth, so we can all go back torturing pokemons, that would be great
Thanks guys, hello from France !

Send CAP REQ :twitch.tv/commands
over IRC and receive you’ll receive whispers in this format:
:twitch_username!twitch_username@twitch_username.tmi.twitch.tv WHISPER your_name :message
Keep in mind most IRC frameworks don’t natively support a WHISPER command so you may have to parse the raw lines sent by the server.
