Stream live notification

Hi all,
I’ve searched the forums and haven’t found a recent posting but is there a way to be notified when a streamer goes live? Older posts suggest polling the /streams/ but that seems a bit taxing.

At this time the only official way to do so is to poll the streams API end point.
