I’ve created an extension that works well in the developer rig. However once I move to a hosted test, the extension does not receive mouse events (e.g. click). Is there any way to fix this?

That would suggest a problem with your code, check your extension actually loaded your Javascript
as I mentioned, the code is fine when working in the developer rig.
Doh, sandbox prevented inline scripts. servers me right for being lazy.

Hosted test is it’s own beast 
Even more so on the site compared to the rig
