Connect to Twitch IRC using app?

I have a script that can connect to the Twitch IRC endpoint and read chat from someones stream, but that uses my own personal username and an OAuth token generated by https://twitchapps.com/tmi/

Is it possible to use a Twitch app to connect to and read chat (to use as a bot), or do I need to make another dedicated account?

Making a dedicated bot account would be the recommended route.
